Obituary for Gladys Elizabeth "Betty" Canivet (Taylor)

CANIVET, Gladys Elizabeth (Betty): June 18, 1926 — November 19, 2018
At the age of 92, Betty, supported by family members that loved her, slipped calmly and painlessly away from the fears and struggles dementia had caused her.
We find solace that she is once again with her late husband of 65 years, Wallace (Wally), her parents Albert and Gladys (nee Thompson) Taylor, and her only sibling, Douglas, lost with the Corvette HCMS Regina on August 8, 1944.
Betty and Wally were best friends, life partners and toiled together on several owner built homes and their many entrepreneurial ventures. They also shared a sense of mild adventure and a love of travel.
A strong, independent streak coupled with a dry sense of humour overlaid Betty’s truly generous and caring soul.
An enthusiastic duffer, she had been a member of Pine Valley Golf and Country Club in Woodbridge and River Isles in Bradenton, Florida.
An active community member, she served as a Brownie and Guide leader in Downsview, a school trustee on the York Regional Board of Education, a board member of Blue Hills Academy, a volunteer for the Cancer Society of Canada, and a member of the Red Hat Society in Markdale.
Betty is survived by her children Douglas (Irene), Deborah (Richard), Bradley (Anne), Cynthia (Dean) and grandchildren; Andre, Lisa, Paul (Amy), Graeme (Jennifer), Daniel (Megan), Jeremy, Leigh (Tanya), Keith (Tiffany), Colleen (Andrew), Brian (Gillian), Hilary (Ryan), and step-granddaughter, Alessandra. She took immense pleasure in her eleven great-grandchildren.
Our thanks to the staff of Montgomery Village, Orangeville and latterly of Beechwood Court Mississauga, who assisted and cared for her the last few years. We give special thanks to the kind and caring medical staff of Trillium Hospital, Mississauga who helped her find the comfort she sought.
Private family memorial to be arranged. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in her name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the CNIB. Online donations and condolences at www.fawcettfuneralhome.ca 888-924-2810
