Obituary for Iris "Iriz" Urve Pääbo

Iris “Iriz” Urve Pääbo passed away peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2020, with the love of her family surrounding her.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Jason (Natasa) and Maxeen (Simon); grandchildren: Felix and Genevieve; brother, Andres; sister, Monica (Tim); sisters-in-law: Kitty (John),Maureen (Luis) and Marysue; as well as numerous relatives and friends around the world. She will also be dearly missed by her friends in the art community.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Peter; brother, George; brother-in-law, Chris; nephew, Tyler; and her parents, Jüri and Helene.

Iriz was a life-long artist with a strong commitment to feminism and social issues. She lived a full and rich life alongside her late husband Peter, children and grandchildren, with whom she took many life turns and adventures. She was the heart and hearth of her family, and will be remembered for always being supportive of family, her many friends and artistic colleagues.

Iriz' professional accomplishments as an independent filmmaker and composer included the innovative and unique award-winning animated films HA'Aki and Loon Dreaming with the National Film Board. Throughout her life, Iriz pursued diverse artistic interests ranging from book illustration, musical theatre, multimedia art, installations, sculpture and fine art.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date when we can safely gather together.

If desired, memorial donations can be made to breast cancer research, or any charity to promote, nurture, and support arts and culture of all kinds.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the South West Local Health Integration Network (Grey County) for their care and compassion.
