Obituary for Gloria Irene Stewart (Joel)

Stewart; Gloria Irene

Peacefully at home on the farm, on Monday, July 5, 2021 of Priceville in her 97th year. Beloved wife of Bob. Loving mother of Bill (Wendy) and Lynn (the late Mary Rivers) all of Priceville. Gloria was the adoring grandmother of William. She is predeceased by brother George Joel and sister Margaret Dickson, fondly remembered by nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Born in west Toronto Dec. 6, 1924 ( at Windermere Ave.) she and Bob began their married life in Sept. 1951 on Trafalgar Rd. north of Oakville (RR # 1 Hornby) designing and hand building their own home and settling there for 29 years. In 1980 they moved north to RR # 1 Priceville to a 100 year old brick farmhouse for the remainder of their life together.
She was a devoted wife and best friend of Bob for 70 married years. She was the very best Mom, infinitely patient, loving and truly selfless while possessing the biggest heart imaginable. She had an unending enthusiasm for all aspects of life. She loved reading from Anne of Green Gables to Farley Mowat, from Pierre Berton to Ghosts, UFO’s, Sasquatch and the Unexplained. She loved to watch dvd’s of classic movies and series from the 40’s through the 90’s with her family every evening, and appreciated music of all types from Classical to the Beatles. She served her community as a devoted member of the Priceville Presbyterian Woman’s Group. She adored watching nature and photographing the beauty of each passing season, was always happy cooking and baking for her family, and boiled many a season of maple syrup from her own trees. Her enthusiasm was boundless and never ceased, even through late life dementia. Her beloved cat Harry misses her enormously, as do we all. She is irreplaceable.

Mom’s wishes were that no service would occur, but Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society or Centre Grey Health Services would be greatly appreciated. Online condolences and tributes available at www.fawcettfuneralhome.ca
