Obituary for Dean Andrew "Bucko" Rutherford

Rutherford; Dean Andrew

Surrounded by his family at Toronto General Hospital on Sunday, April 17, 2022 of Markdale in his 62nd year. Beloved husband and best friend of Sharon(nee Junkin). Loving father of Mike(Terelle) of Newcastle, Melissa(Steven Hillier) of Mount Brydges, and Steven of London. Proud and incredible grandfather of Greyson, Henry, Tanner and Rylan. Adored son of Shirley Rutherford and son-in-law of Reta Junkin, both of Bowmanville. Dear brother of Glenn of Caledon, Lorie(Gene) Osmond of Oshawa and Mark(Angela) of Smiths Falls. Predeceased by his father Malcolm Rutherford and father-in-law Vernon Junkin. Dean was a devoted brother in law and will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Dean, known to his friends as Bucko, was a friend to everyone. A dedicated serviceman to the community around him and the definition of a family man. He spent 34 years as a dedicated member of the OPP, with the majority of those years spent with Crimestoppers of Grey Bruce. He spent many years coaching and involved with Markdale Minor Hockey, along with many other community events. Never one to shy away from public speaking, a mic was rarely needed. Friends could track what hole he was on at The Markdale Golf Club once they opened their car doors. The list of outstanding qualities for Dean are endless, and everyone who knew him can vouch for that.

A Celebration of Dean's life will take place at the Markdale Golf and Curling Club on Saturday, April 30 from 2:00-5:00pm. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Centre Grey Hospital Foundation – Building Fund or Crime Stoppers Grey-Bruce would be greatly appreciated.
