Passed, surrounded by his family, at his home in Markdale on Saturday, March 25, 2023 in his 88th year. Beloved husband of Deb Currie. Loving father of John Jr of Toronto, Frederick(Nancy) of Orangeville, Carrie Robertson LaFonte(Cory LaFonte), James(Mary Thompson) all of Markdale and the late "Bob" Robert. Step-father of Andrea Currie(Dean) Archdekin and Chrissy Currie(Pat Shnieder) all of Wasaga Beach. Cherished grandfather of John(Amanda) Robertson, Elizabeth(Dwayne) Alleyne, Jeffrey, Allie, Jassie, Ward, Jackson(Amber), Grace, Paige Robertson, Skylar(Val), Daniel(Keyonia) Bureau, Dezeray, Zack, Madison Robertson Cody LaFonte and Sawyer Schnider. Proud great grandfather of Alexis, Mackenzie, Emily, Sophia, Zoe, Freddy, Dougie, Briar and Eli. Dear brother of Dorothy McKelland of Kamloops, BC. Predeceased by his parents Jack and Dorothy, step-mother Vera, brother Norman and brother in-law Norman McKelland.
John was born October 12, 1935 in Comox, Alberta. John and his siblings were mostly raised in the west, however, once deciding to move to Ontario, the family moved slowly, while operating Robertson Amusements enroute. Only a few years after settling in Toronto, John started Albion Amusements with only the Chair Ride, which he built himself. Year after year, he built the business to own many rides with many employees. Before retiring, John celebrated over 40 years of Albion Amusements in Markdale travelling to 20 different cities, working at 20 different shows. His daughter Carrie and her husband Corey are now the owners and operators of AM, however, John leaves a large legacy in that industry.
The family will receive friends at the Fawcett Funeral Cremation Reception, Flesherton, on Tuesday, March 28 from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral service from Annesley United Church, Markdale on Wednesday at 1pm. Cremation to follow, with spring interment at Glendale Memorial Cemetery, Etobicoke.
