Obituary for Jessie Margaret Magee (McCormack)

Jessie Margaret (McCormack) Magee 1929-2023

Jessie, in her 94th year, passed away peacefully Thursday March 30th at Rockwood Terraces in Durham where she resided since Oct 2020.

Jessie, the daughter of the late Mabel (Knox) & the late William McCormack was born in Swinton Park. After attending public school she completed Business College in Fergus. Jessie worked in the Toronto and Owen Sound areas. In 1966, she was employed by the Grey County Board of Education where she worked until her retirement in 1990. In September 1963, Jessie and Jim were married. Jim and Jessie both enjoyed the outdoors, were avid snowmobilers in the earlier years, enjoyed time at their nearby Lake Eugenia cottage, and travelled quite extensively. Their travels took them across Canada and USA, UK, France, Italy, Amsterdam, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand to name a few. In the later years they operated J&J Greenhouses just outside of Flesherton. Subsequent to that, Jim and Jessie were quite the avid hobbyists spending much time wood crafting and painting and showing up at the local Farmer’s Market selling their crafts. Although they did not have any children together, they took much pleasure in spending time with the many nieces and nephews from both the McCormack and Magee sides of the family. Jessie was predeceased by her husband Jim in 1999 and also predeceased by her sister Jean and her two brothers Wallace and Jim.

A service for Jessie will be held on Wednesday May 24th at 11:00am, Fawcett Funeral Home, Flesherton with internment at Flesherton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Jessie’s request is for donations to either the Centre Grey Hospital, Markdale or Swinton Park Presbyterian Church.

The McCormack and Magee families would like to thank the staff of Rockwood Terraces Nursing Home. A very special and heartfelt thank you to Jessie’s long-time friend Marjatta Dobson who was by her side, in particular throughout the last few years. Thank you does not seem enough.
