At Grey Bruce Health Services - Markdale, on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, of Flesherton in her 90th year. Beloved wife of the late Ross (2022) for 63 years. Loving mother of Rodney of Wilcox Lake. Dear sister of Les Porteous of Collingwood, Clayton(Eleanor) Porteous of Gatineau, Quebec, and Stan(Noel) Porteous of Toronto. Irene is predeceased by her parents Joyce and Mildred Porteous.
Irene was born on July 9, 1933 in Rock Mills Ontario. Education was always a passion of hers, and she finished high school ahead of schedule. She graduated from “Normal” school in Stratford which led to her teaching career in local one room school houses. When they moved from those to Macphail Memorial Elementary School, she moved her skills to the Flesherton Public Library. Retirement from the library bought Irene the time to focus on her large passion for her gardens. Irene and Ross spent much time in their yard, gardening and watching the traffic pass.
The family will receive friends at Fawcett Funeral Cremation Reception on Saturday, April 15 from 11:30 until the time of service at 1:00pm. Cremation to follow with an interment at Maxwell Cemetery.
