Larry "Simon" Norton, gold miner, chocolate lover, meat draw champion, and Bacardi Limon enthusiast, passed away at the age of 71 on Thursday, May 25, 2023.
Simon was born in Fort Frances, his father’s hometown, after his parents Walter and Ella (both deceased) were married and had his two older brothers, Walter Jr. and John (deceased) in Edinburgh, Scotland.
He followed his older brothers to BC and began his 40+ year career as a gold miner after his illustrious start as a Safeway bag boy didn’t work out.
His affable personality earned him the nickname "Simon the Likeable" and his infectious roaring laughter could always be heard from miles away.
He loved to hunt deer but was usually more successful with his car than with his rifle.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and sitting around a campfire with a good beer and good company.
Simon leaves behind his partner in crime of the last 28 years Sue Boivin, his children Ashlee (Ian) and John Norton, his step-daughter René (Marty) Long, step-grandchildren Claire & Evelyn, his big brother Walt and his many nieces/nephews, step-nieces/nephews and grand-nieces/nephews. As well as his countless friends who are too infinite to list, he was comfortable talking to anyone and everyone.
He will be incredibly missed by all who knew him, he truly was a miner with a heart of gold.
A celebration of Simon’s life will be held later this summer. Details TBA.
